Muscle Dysmorphia and Male Body Image: A Personal Account
Abstract
Muscle dysmorphia is a proposed psychiatric condition in which an individual feels inadequately muscular and lean, and makes efforts to increase their muscularity and leanness sometimes ignoring the deleterious effects it may have on their physical, psychological, and sociological wellbeing. The purpose of this narrative is to provide a personal account of muscle dysmorphia experiences and how its influence has guided past and continuing research. Furthermore, an analysis of the current characteristics of muscle dysmorphia with suggestions for possible additional characteristics is discussed.
